In the north-east of Northern Ireland, there is a unique natural phenomenon called the "Path of the Giants". This coastal area, consisting of a set of tightly adjacent to each other hexagonal columns.
The name came from a very interesting Irish legend, according to which one Irish giant Finn wanted to compete with his rival from Scotland. Then, to get to him without drowning in the sea, he built a series of columns leading to Scotland. But, when the Irishman fell asleep, his rival visited him on the same bridge. Finn's wife cheated, saying that the sleeping husband is her son. Frightened, somehow, my father, the Scotsman ran away in horror home, breaking behind him the bridge built by the rival.
In fact, basalt columns are the result of volcanic activity that occurred 50-60 million years ago. It is very difficult to believe that all this is the result of a normal hexagon.
This area was listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1986.
