Krasnodar Territory was formed on September 13, 1937 on the basis of the territories occupied before the revolution by the Kuban region and the Black Sea province. The regional center is the city of Krasnodar. The historical name is Kuban. The region in the north-east borders with the Rostov region, in the east - with the Stavropol Territory, in the south - with the Republic of Abkhazia and the Republic of Karachay-Cherkessia, is washed by the Azov and Black Seas.
