Bell was born in Scotland. He studied at the
Universities of Edinburgh and London and
then moved to Canada. But he is world fa-
mous as an American scientist and inventor
because he lived and worked in Boston for
many years. He trained teachers for their fu-
ture work in schools for people who couldn't
hear In 1876 he invented a machine which
was called telephone, tele means distance
and phone means sound He also started
the Bell Telephone Company
