1 Where is my bag? I left it under this chair. Somebody has taken it.

Explanation: In this sentence, we use the present perfect tense because the action of taking the bag happened in the past but has an effect on the present. We use the auxiliary verb "has" to form the present perfect and the past participle form of the verb "take" which is "taken".

2 I’ve got a headache. I have had it since I got up.

Explanation: In this sentence, we use the present perfect tense because the headache started in the past but is still ongoing in the present. We use the auxiliary verb "have" to form the present perfect and the past participle form of the verb "have" which is "had".

3 Unfortunately, our train is delayed.

Explanation: In this sentence, we use the present simple tense because the delay is a current situation and not a completed action. The verb "is" is in the present simple form and "delayed" is the adjective describing the train.

4 Phone me after 8 o’clock. We will have finished dinner by then.

Explanation: In this sentence, we use the future perfect tense because the action of finishing dinner will be completed in the future before another future action (phoning). We use the modal verb "will" and the perfect infinitive "have finished".

5 –Was Tom there when you arrived?
-
No, he had already left.

Explanation: In this sentence, we use the past perfect tense because the action of leaving (by Tom) happened before another past action (arrival). We use the auxiliary verb "had" to form the past perfect and the past participle form of the verb "leave" which is "left".
